Roz Townsend Mediator and Conflict Coach - Frequently Asked Questions

What is your opinion of a "successful" outcome of a workplace mediation process?

I aim to achieve a mutually agreeable outcome which acknowledges the differences in work colleagues and allows them to continue working together in a healthy, professional manner.

What is the average length of time you aim to spend to implement a workplace mediation?

The average is 4 hours although different people have different needs and this may vary. The four hours is usually made up in the following way:

1.5 hour - 2 x 45 minute preparatory sessions with each party to determine the readiness of each to undertake mediation.

2.5 hour Mediation Session

What form of feedback about the process and its outcomes do you give to the employer?

This depends on the nature of the mediation and the respect of privacy of the individuals. Usually the mutually agreed outcomes are relayed to the employer. Also relayed are general comments about the process and its effectiveness or otherwise, the willingness of each party to work towards a resolution.
If resolution is not forthcoming suggestions about referrals to other professional may be made.
